By Beth McConnell – The Beetlejuice sequel seems somewhat of a cinematic vapour at this point, it’s a myth that seems to of swirled around Hollywoods corridors for over two decades. Earlier this year, things seemed to be moving along with Tim Burton, Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder all expressing interest in reviving the title.
However, that chatter was debunked and recently speaking to Variety, Michael Keaton all but killed any idea of a sequel, stating on the subject;
“You always hear things, that this is happening, and people seem to know more about it than I do. It’s possible that ship has sailed.” He went on to add “So much of it was improvised and so much was beautifully handmade by the artist that is Tim Burton. If you can’t get close to that, you leave it alone. There are certain movies that are like Indian burial grounds. You never ride over them. Bad s— happens if you cross that. You don’t touch certain things. They are sacred.”
Whilst his love for the original is great to see and with so many people frustrated with reboots, remakes and reviving franchise’s long after they’re dead it’s actually quite amicable that the original cast won’t touch a revival as the first movie is “sacred”, the news is sure to bum a lot of people out.
