The movie famed for being the most disliked movie trailer of all time on YouTube couldn’t overcome fan power as Ghostbusters is now on course to be a failure in the eyes of Sony
By Jay Hunter – Ghostbusters (2016) may very well be the most despised movie since Star Wars: Episode I. But despite that, Sony insisted that all was good with the movies box-office, stating that a sequel was currently being fast tracked.
“We’re very proud of the bold movie Paul Feig made, which critics and audiences loved,” Sony told The Hollywood Reporter. “It has enlivened a 30-year-old brand and put it into the modern zeitgeist. As a result, we have many ideas in the works to further exploit the Ghostbusters universe.”
It seems however, that, that was all a bluff.
The Hollywood Reporter went on to announce the movie will need to hit $300 million to breakeven, however it currently sits at just $180 million. The movie is yet to be released in the likes of Japan, Mexico and Japan but it projected to make a $70 million lost.
Much like the original Ghostbusters movie, there are plans to create an animated series, Ghostbusters: Ecto Force, scheduled for a 2018 release.
