Shane Black is currently working on his Predator movie, entitled, The Predator.
“I’d love to revisit [Monster Squad]. I hope that somebody at some point says that it would be great” – Shane Black
By Jay Hunter – Stranger Things seems to have well and truly ignited a nostalgia spark underneath Hollywood, along with Universal Studios rebooting their classic Universal Monsters series, it seemed only a matter of time until we’d visit our old friends, the Monster Squad. And according to one of the movies writers, Shane Black (Iron Man 3, The Predator), he can see the potential too. Speaking to IGN about the matter, he had this to say:
“I’d love to revisit [Monster Squad]. I hope that somebody at some point says that it would be great. They have all these new Universal monsters… At some point, the Abbot & Costello meet Frankenstein version… I wonder if there’s room in the Monster Squad for that?”
“The first thing I go to is the movie, or the book really, IT by Stephen King, which is about kids who fight monsters when they’re young, then as grown-ups they’re sort of beckoned and they have to return to their childhood hometown. I don’t know how [a Monster Squad sequel] would distance [itself] from that.”
Of course, IT is currently in the limelight as well and a sequel by the original writer with the same sort of DNA as the Stephen King classic is something that fans seem to be receptive to.
