Stranger Things season two will look to James Cameron for inspiration

By Jay Hunter – Last week, we finally got word that Stranger Things season two was officially greenlit. Of course, this came to a shock to nobody, the first season took the world by storm so it was just smart business if nothing else to order a second season.

The exciting thing now the season is officially going ahead, is that we will slowly start getting more details about where the show will head from here. Speaking to EW, show creators the Duffer Brothers said James Cameron will be a major influence for the upcoming season, saying:

“I know movie sequels get a lot of s—, but the ones we look up to aspire to pivot and do something different,” explained Matt. “There’s Temple of Doom, Aliens, Terminator 2. I guess a lot of this is James Cameron. But he’s brilliant. And I think one of the reasons his sequels are as successful as they are is he makes them feel very different without losing what we loved about the original. So I think we kinda looked to him and what he does and tried to capture a little bit of the magic of his work.”

Of course Stephen King was a major influence for the first season, so if the Duffer Brothers can carry over the spirit of Cameron into season two and execute it as flawlessly, then fans have a lot to be excited for. Cameron is known for upping the ante in his sequels, and it seems the Brothers will go the same route, we know that we will be going outside of Hawkins for at least a small portion of the season, with the brothers going on to say:

“We will venture a little bit outside of Hawkins,” says Matt of Things’ small Indiana town. “I will say the opening scene [of the premiere] does not take place in Hawkins.”

This week we got a full list of the episode titles for season two confirmed by Netflix (see below). Of course, they don’t give too much away but we can still speculate, for instance episode one “MadMax” could be a hint that we will be seeing Eleven again. As, actress Millie Bobby Brown was convinced to shave her hair after the Duffer Brothers showed her Furiosa in Mad Max: Fury Road

There will be a lot more pressure on the brothers to deliver for the second season, Stranger Things caught many people off guard but now fans are scrambling for every detail they can find regarding season two. With many of the cast are now very much in the public eye (see below), we’ll be hearing lot more about season two in the run up to next summer.

Via THR we know that the new season is now casting for three new roles named Max, Roman and Billy. The latter is listed as a potential series regular, whilst the first two are described as season regulars.

Described as a tough and confident 13-year old girl, Max sounds like she will very much fall into the James Cameron archetype. She is also a skateboarder and described as a tomboy. Whilst Billy is a muscular 17 year old male, described as captivating and edgy.

Finally Roman is a male or female of any ethnicity, between the ages of 30 and 38 with a tragic past.

The official longline for the series is “When terrifying supernatural forces once again begin to affect Hawkins, they realize Will’s disappearance was only the beginning, and so the adventure continues…”

Stranger Things season two will be available on Netflix Summer 2017.
