Concept Art For The Conjuring 2’s Crooked Man

“James Wan; really enjoyed the exploration process and was open to letting the character evolve”

“The Crooked Man came again at the stroke of twelve, and when he killed his wife and kids he smiled a crooked smile”

By Jay Hunter – In a shock to no one, The Conjuring 2 is stealing all the horror records for 2016. The James Wan helmed sequel became one of the most successful horror movies of all time, putting the Conjuring series second behind only The Exorcist in terms of box-office success.

Whilst the movies main antagonist was unquestionably Valek (who will be getting it’s own spinoff movie entitled, The Nun), The Crooked Man did stand out in the movie. The strange animation looked straight out of The Babadook, and whilst arguably it didn’t really fit within the tone of The Conjuring 2, there’s no doubting creature performer Javier Botet gave a memorable performance as The Crooked Man.

Before The Conjuring 2 gets released on DVD and Blu-Ray on September 13th, we got a chance to look inside some of the special features. One of which shows concept artist Jared Krichevsky working on designs for the horrifying creature. Krichevsky stated:

The Conjuring 2 was a great pleasure to work on and I love the way [The Crooked Man] turned out in the movie as well,” the artist wrote on his blog. “As a huge fan of his work I really learned a lot in getting notes from James Wan; he really enjoyed the exploration process and was open to letting the character evolve.”

The movie turned out brilliant and I hope to see a Crooked Man spinoff at some point,”
