The manga-based Hollywood movie has found itself at the centre of controversy
By Jay Hunter – The first teaser for the highly anticipated Ghost in the Shell movie has arrived, seeing Scarlett Johansson disconnecting from her station, the movie will follow Johansson and her partner hunt a mysterious and powerful hacker called the Puppet Master.
The movie has been central to Hollywood’s white-washing protests, alongside Marvel’s Doctor Strange, for it’s portrayal of casting a Caucasian actress in an Asian role. However, whilst speaking to buzzfeed, the movies producer stated he doesn’t think fans will be disappointed by the movies “international approach.”
He went on to say “I think we’ve done the manga comic great honour. As I said, the fans will be very happy, because there’s a great respect that’s been paid to the manga. … We’ve been very, very careful. Obviously, there’s some new imagination, as well. I mean, like anything, when you’re making a movie, you’ve gotta bring your own.”
You can see the teasers for the Ruper Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman) below, the movie will also star Michael Pitt and Juliette Binoche.
