The announcement comes alongside the news that Friday the 13th is also delayed
By Jay Hunter – The likes of Lights Out and The Conjuring 2, dragged the Summer box-office numbers into positivity. Interestingly, in the run up to Halloween (prime season for horror), it seems that audiences are having some fatigue for the genre. Poor financial returns for Blair Witch looked to have played a part into Paramount moving Rings back from it’s initial 28th October release, to February 3rd, 2017. Meaning, Ouija: Origin of Evil will be the only new horror release in October.

Paramount may live to regret the new date however. With Blumhouse releasing an untitled horror movie on February 3rd, alongside T2: Trainspotting, Samara is in for some tough competition.

This announcement also comes alongside the news that the Friday the 13th reboot will be delayed  from January 13th 2017 until October 13th 2017. Given the fact Friday is still in talks with script writers, this news is hardly a surprise. Regardless, an October release is more fitting for the movie and gives the horror community a solid release to look forward to for next Halloween season.
