By Jay Hunter Set within the confines of the Liverpool Olympia, a 100-year-old building that hosted the likes of Most Haunted, the 82 year old John Carpenter exploded with a volley of his most iconic scores upon a backdrop of his most iconic movies.

Shooting things off was the double barrel of Escape from New York and Assault on Precinct 13. Carpenter effortlessly rolled into classic scores from The Fog and They Live, making a seamless hybrid setlist, which included some of his original tunes from Lost Themes 1 and 2.

In a setting as eery as this, with Carpenter and his band gliding over his memorable filmography with instantly recognisable soundscapes it’s easy to get swept away by the spectacle.

Music from Halloween and Christine, brought the night to a crescendo, sending the crowd to fever pitch. In a year that has taken so many of our iconic stars, tonight was a reminder that the master of horror is still very much alive.
