By Jay Hunter – Jurassic World 2 director J.A Bayona (A Monster Calls) has once again reaffirmed his vision for his upcoming dino-movie whilst speaking to The Hollywood Reporter.
Seemingly wanting to appease older fans of the franchise, Bayona admitted that he is attempting to introduce more animatronics into the sequel, stating:
“Obviously you don’t have real dinosaurs — sometimes you have people playing dinosaurs — but we love animatronics and we’re trying to do as much with them as possible,” the director told The Hollywood Reporter at this weeks premiere of A Monster Calls.
“It’s complicated because the audience now is so used to seeing CGI that they’re sometimes reluctant toward animatronics,” he explained further. “But at the same time, I think animatronics bring soul and reality to it. We’re trying to find the balance between animatronics and CGI in order to cheat the audience so they don’t know what they’re seeing.”
The news, coincides with the theory that Jurassic World 2 will be more ‘suspensful, scary & surprising’. Of course this was once the vision for Jurassic World, before studio involvement, so we’ll just have to see whether Bayona’s vision will come to fruition in 2018.
Jurassic World 2 hits theaters June 22, 2018. A Monster Calls opens Dec. 23.
